Review: E.B. 'Three Universities' Choral Festival', Canon, July 1952: 597-98. 'The fresh young voices of the choristers were delightful, and the general co-ordination, so strongly apparent in the opening item … was thoughtfully sustained throughout this concert of enthusiastic and artistic response … The Sydney ensemble was conducted by David Barkla and gave a superb performance of madrigals, blending a limpid soprano line with clean inner parts and a firm and evenly moving bass line … The Massed choir … was outstanding for the surprisingly good diction and ensemble work, together with nicely shaded and rhythmical phrases.'
Robert Dalley-Scarlett, 'Choral concert was enjoyable', Courier-Mail, 6 June 1951: 5. "As a finale the massed choirs sang Hubert Parry’s 'Blest Pair of Sirens'. Here were most of the essential points of choral training except perhaps imagination … Taking it all in all, this was a good and enjoyable programme, which should be repeated and developed in the future."
