He moved to Melbourne in 1999 to undertake doctoral studies at the University of Melbourne. His thesis grew out of his research for a written history of intervarsity, which was published as ''"Laudate": The First 50 Years of the Australian Intervarsity Choral Movement'' and launched during the 50th IV in Hobart in 1999. He is also author of several articles and two further books concerning music in Australia. In Canberra, Peter's early choir training was a treble in the Woden Valley Youth Choir (1974-78). He was Head Chorister at Canberra Grammar School (1982), sang with the Canberra Choral Society (Treasurer 1986-99), Oriana Chorale (Vice-President 1992-95), Canberra Chamber Singers, and the Sydney-based Australian Chamber Singers. In Melbourne, he sings with Ensemble Gombert (Treasurer 2002- ), the Choir of Trinity College and the Melbourne Chorale. He also appears from time to time as a guest chorister with Sydney's Cantillation.
